Professional InterestsI take an ethnographic approach to the analysis of fission/fusion politics in special interest associations, especially those integral to the origins and continuation of homosexual rights movement in the United States. I am especially interested in the function of symbols, narrative, and ritual in the formation and continuation of such organizations and how institutional affiliations often dovetail with identity politics. I also work to apply qualitative and mixed methodologies to research questions pertaining to the design, improvement, or implementation of academic library services.
